Baby’s got a new pair of a pair of shoes.
International, police| February 25th, 2008It is not suprising that a country that drinks more beer then water has an issue of broken glass on the streets. For most people this is not an issue, but the animals walking the streets don’t have any protection on their feet. All that is about to change for the police dogs. German police have ordered special new shoes in blue for their K-9 companions (almost said comrades but that would be Russian). German police dogs are being trained to walk in shoes to prevent paw injuries
Nothing bad to say there. I think it is a great idea. They should be offered just as much protection as the officers they work with. I know in certain situations, here in the US, when there is the potential for gun fire the dogs even have their own bullet proof vest. What is odd is the picture. Fierce looking police dog, cute little booties on its feet.
I have thought about something similar for my cat, hardwood floors can be rough on her little paws. And no comments about owning a cat making me less of a man. You should try scooping the litter after a fresh steamer.

aawww - having a fluffy kitty doesn’t make you less of a man. Dr. Evil has a cat.

Those shoes look like Oakley watershoes. I am surprised that the dogs don’t try to pull them off their feet.

Nothing is worse than a freshly used catbox. I think this is great for dogs that are regularly outside of their home or yard.

It makes sense in the snow and Ice. But under normal conditions, the dogs paws would be better traction. Plus, how do you coordinate the shoes with the collar?
(oh, and you’re not less of a man for owning a cat as much as you are for scooping the littler box….)

Erica >> I agree, but calling it a fluffy kitty does.
Natalie >> Well they are police dogs, and I would hope they have better training then that.
beeker >> The only thing worse is having that freshly used catbox in the bedroom.
mcangeli >> Perhaps you should read the article. It is intended to protect their feet from glass and other debris in the streets and sidewalks the street sweepers were unable to pick up. And I make scooping the litter box more manly by using a back-ho, a back-ho i like to call your wife.

Too funny! I just saw this article in my local paper the other day! I had to giggle, as the entire concept eludes me. It made me wonder just what these dogs were doing to get injured so often… I understand the glass and all, but would walking on concrete and all just make the paw that much tougher?? Like a callus? ::Shrug:: Makes me happy that I keep my dogs inside for the most part. =)
